Neighbourhood Features
Tuen Mun is located in the northwestern part of the New Territories in Hong Kong, and it is one of the first three new towns in the New Territories. Since the late 1970s, it has undergone large-scale development, including reclamation projects and the construction of multiple public housing estates. As the population increased, community facilities were improved, and several subsidized and private housing estates were established.
After years of development, the first housing estate in the area has been demolished and replaced with the Tuen Mun MTR station. Over the railway, shopping malls and residential buildings have been constructed. Nearby old buildings have also undergone redevelopment, resulting in the completion of new housing projects. Additionally, the government has developed new residential land in the area. Tuen Mun has transformed over the years and has become a popular destination in Hong Kong for residence.
Tuen Mun town center is the liveliest area in the district and serves as a transportation hub. Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Trend Plaza, V City, and other large shopping malls are interconnected, offering a combination of shopping, leisure, and entertainment. These malls are linked to the MTR Tuen Mun Station, light rail station, bus and minibus terminus, connecting various housing estates throughout the district and traveling across different districts in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories.
In terms of cultural and recreational facilities, there are the Tuen Mun Town Hall, Tuen Mun Park, Tuen Mun Tang Shiu Kin Sports Ground, cycling paths, waterfront promenades, and various sports facilities, catering to the needs of residents in the district.
Residential Distribution
Residential distribution in the district is relatively even, with more public housing estates concentrated to the west of Tuen Mun River. Subsidized housing estates are scattered, with developments such as Siu On Court, Siu Lun Court, and Chi Lok Fa Yuen closer to the city center.
Near the Tuen Mun Pier area, there are private housing estates like Yuet Wu Villa, Melody Garden, Glorious Garden, and Lung Mun Oasis. Well-equipped private housing estates include Century Gateway, Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Kam Wah Garden, Waldorf Garden, and New Town Mansion, all of which have shopping malls as their podium, providing comprehensive lifestyle amenities.
Another central point is Chelsea Heights, surrounded by estates like Tai Hing Gardens, Greenland Garden, Affluence Garden, and Prime View Garden, enjoying an extensive transportation network. There are also many options for seaside housing estates, including Regency Bay, Miami Beach Towers, Marina Garden, Pierhead Garden, and Richland Garden.
