Neighbourhood Features
Ma On Shan is located in the Sha Tin district and is considered a third-generation new town. Once a major mining town, it underwent a transformation in the 1970s when the mining industry declined, leading to the development of new town projects. The town center and coastal areas are dotted with various residential projects, accompanied by recreational facilities. Previously considered a "food desert," Ma On Shan has seen an improvement in its dining options with the completion of more residential developments, attracting large chain fast-food restaurants to the area.
Ma On Shan features several shopping malls, including Ma On Shan Plaza, MOSTown and Ma On Shan Centre, catering to residents' basic living needs. Ma On Shan Park offers a large lawn, picnic areas, playgrounds, and other recreational facilities. Additionally, the community is equipped with amenities like Ma On Shan Country Park, Whitehead Golf Course, waterfront promenades, sports facilities, providing ample space for leisure activities. In terms of transportation, aside from the Ma On Shan Station on the Tuen Ma Line, the area is served by multiple bus and minibus routes connecting to various parts of Hong Kong.
Residential Distribution
Residential properties in the area are primarily around three MTR stations: Tai Shui Hang Station, Heng On Station, and Ma On Shan Station. The residences near Tai Shui Hang Station are mainly private developments, including Mountain Shore, Sausalito, La Costa, Villa Oceania, and Oceanaire. This area is characterized by low-density sea-view luxury homes, nestled against the hills with a beautiful environment. Close to Heng On Station, there is a large public housing estate called Heng On Estate, and along the waterfront, there are luxury residences like Baycrest and Vista Paradiso.
In the Ma On Shan town center, residential developments are more densely packed around Ma On Shan Station. Properties in this area include The Waterside, Marbella, Fok On Garden, Sunshine City Phase 5 The Tolo Place, Bayshore Towers, Villa Oceania, Ma On Shan Centre, Sunshine City, Fu Fai Garden, Park Belvedere and Saddle Ridge Garden. Some public housing estates like Yiu On Estate and Chung On Estate, as well as subsidized housing like Kam Ying Court, can also be found in this area.
