Neighbourhood Features
Sham Tseng is situated in the southwestern part of the New Territories, belonging to the rural area of the Tsuen Wan District. It is far from the hustle and bustle of the city, providing a tranquil and serene living environment. Historically, it was a Hakka settlement, predominantly consisting of village houses. Since 1989, the area has seen the development of private residential projects, drawing individuals who desire to live close to nature due to its advantageous seaside location. The district boasts multiple beaches, and many residences offer scenic views of the bay or bridges, creating a pleasant landscape.
Compared to the nearby Tsuen Wan, Sham Tseng has fewer consumption options. However, the area has housing estate shopping malls, small shops, and eateries (roast goose is a local specialty). These amenities are sufficient for residents' daily needs, while more extensive shopping choices can be found in the Tsuen Wan town center, which is about a 10 to 15-minute drive away, featuring major shopping malls and a variety of entertainment and recreational facilities.
The district lacks coverage from the railway network. Access in and out relies on the major roads of Castle Peak Road and Tuen Mun Road. To travel to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon, residents need to take buses or mini buses to Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun, then transfer to other modes of transportation.
Residential Distribution
Residential developments in the area are concentrated along the coastline, offering expansive sea views and the opportunity to gaze across the water to Ma Wan. Notable private developments in this area include Bellagio, Golden Villa, Lido Garden, Ocean Pointe, Rhine Garden, and Rhine Terrace. Some of these estates overlook beaches, providing a leisurely and enjoyable atmosphere.
