Neighbourhood Features
Peng Chau is an island located in the southwestern part of Hong Kong, surrounded by the sea on all sides. Since the 1960s, industrial development has flourished, leaving behind numerous factory sites. With a long history, Peng Chau boasts many culturally preserved buildings, including Tin Hau Temple, match factories, lime kiln factories, leather factories, and more. In addition, Peng Chau features attractions such as Tung Wan Beach, North Bay Hiking Trail, markets, and it attracts many visitors during holidays.
Despite its small size, Peng Chau has comprehensive basic amenities. The island is equipped with schools, markets, public libraries, sports facilities, government offices, fire stations, post offices, waterfront parks, various sports fields, and barbecue areas. There are also numerous eateries and shops, satisfying residents' daily needs and providing ample recreational spaces. In terms of transportation, the island relies mainly on bicycles for internal travel, and ferry services connect residents to Central in the city.
Residential Distribution
Residential developments on the island are concentrated around Tung Wan and Nam Wan. Near Tung Wan, there is the only public housing estate on the island—Kam Ping Estate—and Home Ownership Scheme flats in Peng Lai Court. Private residential options include Monterey Villas, Tung Wan Villa, Paloma Bay, Paloma Cove, Treasure Cove 1, and Sea Crest Villa.
The Nam Wan area is primarily composed of traditional villages with some private developments like Jade View Villas, Peak Villa, and Seaview Villas. Most of these estates are built along the waterfront, offering varying degrees of sea views, a tranquil environment, and good privacy.
