Tung Chung is located in the northern part of Lantau Island, belonging to the Islands District. It is a crucial part of the new town development, with the Hong Kong International Airport and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge nearby, serving as a vital hub for entry and exit in Hong Kong.
Since the implementation of the Chek Lap Kok Airport plan, Tung Chung has rapidly developed, boasting railway and land transport connections to various districts. With large shopping malls like Citygate Outlets and various housing estates, the area's facilities have gradually matured. The residential types in the area are diverse, with many estates offering sea and garden views. Its proximity to the airport makes it popular among aviation staff and expatriates.
Tung Chung is a transit point for various natural attractions in Lantau Island, providing a rich natural environment and a comfortable living atmosphere. The area and its surroundings also feature popular entertainment facilities attracting many visitors, such as Ngong Ping 360, AsiaWorld-Expo, and Hong Kong Disneyland. Another notable attraction in Tung Chung is Tung Chung Fort, a declared monument in Hong Kong with significant historical value.
Residential Distribution
Residential areas in the district are mainly concentrated in the west and north of Tung Chung. The northern part encompasses different-density housing estates, including The Visionary, Century Link, Caribbean Coast, Coastal Skyline, Tung Chung Crescent, and Seaview Crescent. Some of these estates are built along the coast, offering picturesque views.
This area enjoys excellent community facilities, including the Tung Chung Municipal Services Building, Tung Chung North Park, North Lantau Hospital, and swimming pools. In contrast, the western part of Tung Chung consists mainly of public housing estates, including Yat Tung Estate and Mun Tung Estate. This area is relatively tranquil, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
