Welcome to Wan Chai

Neighbourhood Features

Wan Chai, situated in the northern part of Hong Kong Island, is one of the major commercial districts in Hong Kong, blending residential, entertainment, and shopping developments. It boasts prominent landmarks such as the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Golden Bauhinia Square.

Due to ongoing land reclamation efforts over the years, the Wan Chai coastline has been continuously shifting northward to accommodate the area's commercial and infrastructure developments. Aging buildings have become a prevalent issue in the district, with many structures exceeding thirty years of age. Consequently, the government has initiated renovation projects not only to improve the local environment but also to introduce new housing supply.

Adjacent to the commercial district of Causeway Bay, Wan Chai offers diverse shopping options, with several large shopping malls nearby, including Times Square, Hysan Place, and Causeway Bay Plaza. Furthermore, the development of the Wan Chai waterfront promenade and themed areas has brought about open-air plazas and recreational facilities, catering to the entertainment needs of the residents.

In terms of transportation, the area is serviced by several main thoroughfares such as Gloucester Road, Hennessy Road, Johnston Road, and Queen's Road East. Multiple bus, minibus, and tram routes connect Wan Chai to various areas. The Wan Chai and Exhibition Centre MTR stations also have multiple exits leading to different streets.

Residential properties are concentrated mainly south of Johnston Road and along both sides of Hennessy Road, with a smaller portion located in the northern Wan Chai area. These buildings, such as The Morrison, Hay Wah Building, Hing Bong Mansion, Hung Fook Mansion,Mei Fai Mansion and Southorn Garden, contribute to the bustling atmosphere of the streets.

The northern Wan Chai area mainly comprises commercial activities, interspersed with a few residential buildings such as the Causeway Centre and the Convention Plaza Apartments.
