Shau Kei Wan, located to the east of Sai Wan Ho and to the west of Chai Wan on Hong Kong Island, underwent extensive development starting from the 1960s, involving land reclamation and the construction of numerous public housing estates, promoting housing development in Shau Kei Wan. Although Shau Kei Wan was once known for its inconvenient transportation, it now has the Shau Kei Wan MTR station and the Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus, providing multiple bus routes to various districts in Hong Kong and Kowloon.

Despite the presence of older buildings and a lack of large shopping malls, Shau Kei Wan boasts a variety of small shops catering to daily needs, cultural artifacts, and recreational facilities, giving it a unique character. The renowned food street, Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, offers a diverse range of eateries and small shops, meeting the daily needs of residents. The area is home to numerous temples, including the Chenghuang Temple, Tin Hau Temple, and Tam Kung Temple, exuding a traditional cultural ambiance. Near the shipyard by the sea, there is the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence in Hong Kong. Additionally, with the proximity to Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village, as well as Tai Tam Country Park, the area offers a diverse range of family-friendly activities.

Residential Distribution

Residential developments in the area are primarily near the MTR station and Shau Kei Wan Main Street East. Residential estates such as Perfect Mount Gardens, Chuang's Heights, Lime Gala, Harmony Place, Marina Lodge, Shaukiwan Centre and Hong Tai Building are located near the MTR station, enjoying the convenience of the railway. Some of these estates come with their own shopping facilities, and the living amenities are relatively comprehensive.

Near Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, estates such as Fong Man House, Le Riviera, The Eastborne, Ho King Building, and Newton Harbour View are relatively bustling, with a wide array of eateries nearby, meeting the daily needs of residents.
