Neighbourhood Features
Sai Wan Ho is located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong, to the east of Quarry Bay and to the west of Shau Kei Wan. Since the 1960s, it has been developed alongside Shau Kei Wan. Initially, the government reclaimed land to build public housing, gradually transitioning to the development of Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) and private residential estates.
Alongside the community development, efforts have been made to preserve historical sites, such as the colonial-style Former Sai Wan Battery, which has become a popular hiking route. The area boasts numerous green spaces, including the Sai Wan Ho Back Hill Trail, Sai Wan Ho Harbour Park and the Aldrich Bay Park.
A notable landmark in Sai Wan Ho is the renowned Tai On Building, hailed as a paradise for affordable and delectable local delicacies. The area is dotted with numerous eateries and is well-loved by local residents. For more recreational activities, one can head to the nearby Soho East by the sea, where several bars and restaurants are clustered. Daily shopping needs can be met at Hing Tung Shopping Centre, Oi Tung Shopping Centre or Tai Koo Shing. In terms of transportation, in addition to bus and minibus routes to various districts in Hong Kong. Sai Wan Ho Ferry Pier also offers routes to and from Kwun Tong and Lei Yue Mun.
Residential Distribution
Residential developments in the area are primarily near the MTR station and along Yiu Hing Road. Privately owned buildings near the MTR station include Tai On Building, Lei King Wan, Grand Promenade, and Les Saisons, benefiting from proximity to the railway and major roads, with multiple bus and tram routes leading to various districts in Hong Kong.
The Yiu Hing Road area mainly comprises public housing estates and subsidized housing, including Tung Hei Court, Tung Yan Court, Yiu Tung Estate, and Hing Tung Estate, which are closer to the large Tam Tam Country Park, offering a serene environment with lower building density.
