Neighbourhood Features
Tai O is located on Tai O Island in the western part of Lantau Island in the New Territories. It is one of the few remaining fishing villages in Hong Kong. With the decline of the fishing industry, Tai O fishermen have gradually shifted to operating seafood processing businesses in recent years. As a traditional fishing village on an outlying island, Tai O is also a popular tourist destination. The island features a market, stilt-house restaurants, ancient temples, the iconic Tai O Heritage Hotel. These attractions attract many visitors on weekends and holidays.
The community on the island is well-equipped with facilities such as a market, fire station, clinic, post office, community center, and playground, meeting the daily basic needs of residents. In terms of transportation, the island is served by bus routes and ferry services to destinations like Tung Chung, Tuen Mun, and Mui Wo.
Residential Distribution
The housing on the island mainly consists of village houses and public housing estates, including Lung Hin Court and Tin Lee Court. These estates were converted from Lung Tin Estate and subsequently sold as public housing.
