Neighbourhood Features
Tseung Kwan O, located in the bay of Sai Kung District in the western New Territories, began reclamation in the mid to late 1980s and has developed into the seventh new town in Hong Kong.
Tseung Kwan O reclamation project is divided into three phases: Phase 1 covers Po Lam, Choi Lam, andHong Sing Garden; Phase 2 includes Tseung Kwan O Town Centre and Hang Hau; Phase 3 covers Tiu Keng Leng. Tseung Kwan O is not only a major residential area but also known for its "mall city" concept. Most developments have their own shopping malls, and pedestrian walkways connect these malls, allowing residents to travel between them without going through street-level areas.
As the population in the area has increased, the transportation network has matured. Projects like the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel have improved traffic between Tseung Kwan O and East Kowloon, reducing travel time across the harbor.
Tseung Kwan O offers various integrated sports facilities and is home to Hong Kong's first standard indoor velodrome, showcasing a diverse range of recreational facilities. It's worth noting that the area also has some controversial facilities, such as the South East New Territories Landfill; residents in the vicinity may need to consider odor-related issues.
