Tai Po is located in the northeastern part of the New Territories and became a new town in 1979. It has undergone a series of reclamation projects and currently accommodates over 300,000 residents. The urban area of the district has rapidly developed, with the construction of multiple public housing estates. Simultaneously, there has been an increase in community services, recreational facilities, educational institutions, and shopping malls. The rural areas strive to preserve their natural beauty, as seen in the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden.
The district boasts the largest park in Hong Kong, the Tai Po Waterfront Park, and a 16-hectare waterfront promenade. In comparison to other urban areas, Tai Po has ample green spaces, proximity to various natural hiking spots, including Wu Kau Tang, Tai Po Kau, and Tai Mei Tuk. Many housing developments in the area adopt low-density designs, offering residents lush green surroundings.

Residential areas are concentrated in Tai Po Market, along the Lam Tsuen River, Tai Wo Station, and Tai Po upper hill. Tai Po Market is served by the Tai Po Market MTR Station, providing convenient transportation. Private residences in this area include Uptown Plaza, Classical Gardens, and Elegance Garden. Along the banks of the Lam Tsuen River, there are numerous estates such as Tai Po Centre, Jade Plaza, Sun Hing Garden, Plover Cove Garden, Ting Nga Court, and Eightland Gardens. Tai Po Centre, a large development by New World Development, offers comprehensive amenities and is situated near the tranquil Tolo Harbour.
Near Tai Wo Station, you'll find developments like Po Nga Court and Serenity Park, similarly benefiting from the proximity to the railway. In Tai Po Mid-levels, housing developments are primarily low-density luxury residences, including Hong Lok Yuen and Mont Vert, providing a serene environment and high privacy.
