Neighbourhood Features
Shek Tong Tsui is located in the Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island, east of Kennedy Town, north of the University of Hong Kong, and west of Sai Ying Pun. In the early 20th century, it was once a red-light district, but later, the construction of a nearby railway led to the redevelopment of the old area. Gradually, it transformed into a residential area with lower building density compared to the general urban areas, creating a tranquil living environment. Shek Tong Tsui features a waterfront promenade that connects to Wan Chai.
Along the way, there are grassy areas, children's playgrounds, and multi-functional activity spaces, providing ample entertainment and relaxation spaces. The streets in the area are dotted with unique shops and cafes, making it suitable for those who enjoy a leisurely lifestyle. Additionally, Shek Tong Tsui has a market and cooked food center, convenient for purchasing daily necessities.
In terms of transportation, since the extension of the Island Line in 2005, the district has gained a new MTR station named after the nearby University—Hong Kong University Station. Besides the MTR, the transportation network in the area is well-developed, with tram routes connecting to various areas on Hong Kong Island. There are also bus and minibus routes connecting to different parts of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.
